Penny Richards

I am painter based in Keynsham, in between Bath and Bristol.

Using water-based paint I depict a wide range of subjects, from figures in movement, to quiet but textural landscapes.

I usually use watercolour on heavy paper to begin a painting. I sketch and paint freely from real life, absorbing the energy and atmosphere of the moment.

With these emotional memories and experiences I return to my studio and often evolve the paintings from representation, into a more textured and abstract style by working in watercolour or acrylic paints and inks over a pre-textured surface. This surface could be collage, oil based mono-print or even shoe polish.

I have wide experience in teaching art to both children and adults and offer watercolour workshops to adults.
